Held as one of the best and most influential horror games ever made, Silent Hill 2 is a smorgasbord of twisted imagery wrapped up in a haunting atmosphere. The sights and sounds on display are creepy enough, however the game takes on a whole new level of psychological terror once players realise that everything they’ve encountered in the titular, foggy town is a manifestation of protagonist James Sunderland’s overwhelming guilt.

From shambling nurses to spidery mannequins, Silent Hill 2 is renowned for its disturbing creature designs, the most iconic of which being Pyramid Head. A towering monstrosity with a large metallic pyramid for a head who drags an almost comically sized knife across the floor, this enemy appears throughout the game to terrorise James in a psychosexually symbolic manner.

Moreover, this character’s introduction is just as twisted as what he represents.

While exploring a creepy apartment building, a commotion is heard in one of the rooms. James decides to investigate and hides in a wardrobe. Peering through the slats, he (and players) watch in stunned horror as they witness Pyramid Head engaged in a violent sexual act against one of the mannequin creatures in what has become one of gaming's most disturbing moments.
