10 Times Music Made A Video Game INCREDIBLE
3. Halo 2 - Mjolnir Mix
The Halo franchise, especially the first three games, tended to employ soundtracks incredibly well. The Mjolnir Mix in Halo 2 though was absolutely phenomenal, leaving a massive legacy behind it.
It was used in the demo video and during the credits, but by far the standout use of the song was at the end of Metropolis when the Scarab tank arrives. The electrifying music taps into the original Halo theme, but with a more rock and roll edge to let you know that everything is bigger and better this time around.
The original theme has two added guitar sections, both played and scored by the legendary Steve Vai, so you know it’s good. It’s gone down in history as one of the most iconic and recognisable video game themes too, being used in a variety of ways.
Microsoft used the theme to open their E3 presentation in 2007, and once had it as their hold music for customer support, which might have made those phone calls more bearable. It was a free bonus track on Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock too, as well as playing at Seattle’s New Year’s Eve celebration in 2005. Quite the legacy.
