2. SSX Tricky - It’s Tricky
For all a lot of games on this list have perfectly timed music which stirs up deep emotions, sometimes music just has to be fun. That’s something SSX Tricky excelled at, and it included a genius music choice.
Sports games might get a bad rep when held up against classic video games, but when it comes to soundtracks, they’re up there with the best.
Players of a certain generation will forever associate The Rockafeller Skank with FIFA, Superman with Tony Hawk’s, and if you stretch sports sims to racing, Lazy Generation with Burnout 3: Takedown.
Of those though, Run DMC’s It’s Tricky as the high score music for SSX Tricky takes the cake. The other examples are just memorable sounds from killer soundtracks which capture their era to a tee. It’s Tricky though has the added benefit of nailed on timing too.
The game was built with heavy arcade mechanics, with tricks, showmanship and combos the order of the day. Getting the high score in any given track was the aim of the game, and your reward each time was fast and funky rhythms of Run DMC’s It’s Tricky. Pure nostalgia.
