10 Times Video Game Franchises Were Rebooted Into The Worst Thing Ever
5. Nosgoth
For years fans have been clamouring for The Legacy of Kain series to make a grand return to gaming. With no word on the franchise since the PS2 days, Square Enix completely misread what fans of the series wanted when it announced the first new instalment in over ten years, Nosgoth, in 2013.
Instead of being a genuine sequel, the game was supposed to be a free-to-play arena shooter that used the Legacy of Kain license as the basis for its characters and locations only, without any real connection to the series itself.
Players had waited over ten years for a new Legacy of Kain game, so when it was announced that Nosgoth was going to be such a radical departure and not at all what any of the fans wanted, the title was pretty much dead in the water.
The open beta ran from 2015 to early 2016 before being swiftly cancelled, saving fans from having to see the once-iconic franchise fall from grace.
