You know something doesn't smell right when the mainstream press gets involved. The BBC, among many others, joined in to lambast EA's remarkably greedy attempt at monetizing Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog's (RIP) beloved strategy series from the 90s.

In what has become a trend for EA in recent years, its attempts to secure a foothold in the lucrative mobile gaming market backfired spectacularly. Not at all surprising, given what unfolds below.

As expected, EA attempted to offset the fierce negativity with an explanatory statement, but that only served to showcase its total lack of insight into the key issue.

"We believe we've designed an experience wherein players don't have to spend money if they don't want to."

Well duh? Nobody was accusing you of extortion, EA, just a total lack of respect for your customers is damning enough.
