10 Times Video Game Publishers Insulted Their Fans
2. Xbox One's DRM
Sony must have been bricking itself in the early days of 2013. The PlayStation 3 had flopped, Xbox 360 had cemented itself as the console of choice for multi-platform needs and Microsoft was gearing up to announce the console's successor. But then E3 arrived, the oily brows belonging to Sony's executives disappeared, replaced instead with giant grins. Microsoft's anti-consumerist policy for Xbox One's initial reveal had ended the next console war before it even begun.
But then, Microsoft got its just desserts for believing that the 360's install base would willingly swallow the spiel that (former) Xbox boss Don Mattrick was peddling to the press and public.
Would you rather drop hundreds on a console that placed restrictions on the sale of used games and required its owners 'check-in' every 24 hours to ensure no foul play or an alternative that had no such restrictions and boasted superior hardware to boot? Tough decision.
Sony had every right to take advantage of the free win. This little slice of comedy gold will never get old.
