10 Times Video Games "Did Right By The Fans" (And Pissed Everyone Off)
3. Toning The Difficulty WAY Down - Devil May Cry 2
Though the original Devil May Cry was largely embraced by fans of the character action subgenre, some did nevertheless complain about the game's difficulty, feeling that it was a little too punishing to be truly fun.
And so, in one of the all-time worst over-corrections in the history of visual media, Capcom decided to massively tone down the level of challenge in Devil May Cry 2.
However, they went beyond merely tweaking the difficulty to straight-up dumbing the combat down, making it far less of a strategic affair, especially with respect to the game's boss battles.
As a result, DMC2 was widely reviled by fans and critics alike, enough that even those who complained about the first game's difficulty might've been left dissatisfied by Capcom's solution here.
The pushback was at least potent enough that the developer responded by making the next game, Devil May Cry 3, the hardest in the entire series - and, arguably, the very best.
