10 Times Video Games Changed Their Own Rules Just To Spite You

Rules are meant to be broken... just not by you!

No matter how much skill you have, at the end of the day, how well you perform in a game is up to its developers.

They are in charge of the rules, and sometimes they like to remind you of it by playing dirty.

Have you ever found yourself unable to do something because the game took that ability from you? Have you fought against enemies who suddenly learned how to counter your every power? Or perhaps the game surprised you with something that wasn't supposed to happen?

If any of the above things sound familiar, it's because you fell victim to games changing their own rules just to spite you.

Seeing a game flip the rules on you can be painful since there's nothing you can do about it. Your only options are to simply accept it and move on, or curse the name of the developers who did this to you until you get tired and go back to option one.

Well, you can also vent your anger here by checking out the nastiest ways in which developers have trolled their players and realizing that at least you're not the only one who fell for their tricks.

10. Zombies - Thief: The Dark Project

Thief is a game series that puts great emphasis on stealth and finding creative solutions for outwitting your enemies.

So what does Thief: The Dark Project do? It gives you a wide range of incredible tools to avoid detection and then takes them all away from you by introducing enemies that are immune to them halfway through the story!

Although the first part of the game does an excellent job of utilizing it's stealth mechanics, the Tombs missions decide to break all of the rules you have learned about these abilities by introducing zombies.

Unlike regular human enemies, zombies don't fall for your stealth tricks, meaning that all the amazing powers you've gained and mastered are completely useless against them.

Yeah, isn't that great? Now all you're left with is either basic stealth or checking things at random and seeing what sticks. To make things even worse, the zombies tend to act quite erratically, so it's hard to predict when they might be able to spot you!

It's honestly one of the worst parts of the game, which shouldn't be surprising considering it's a stealth section that robs you of all of your means of acting stealthy.

Now this is what we call thievery!
