10 Times You Came Back From The Dead To Kick Ass In Video Games

3. Solid Snake - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

The tanker-set prologue section of Metal Gear Solid 2 is arguably the strongest sequence in the entire game, in large part because players actually, you know, get to play as Solid Snake.

But the tanker segment concludes with Revolver Ocelot stealing Metal Gear RAY and leaving the tanker to sink, causing more than half of the Marines onboard to drown, while Snake himself is presumed dead and also blamed for instigating the disaster.

In a highly controversial bait-and-switch, the player is then given control of Raiden for the remainder of the game, while being periodically assisted by a new comrade, NAVY Seal Iroquois Pliskin.

Pliskin bears an hilariously uncanny resemblance to Snake, and of course it's later revealed that he is indeed the Solid Snake, who survived the tanker incident and continues to help Raiden for the rest of his mission.

Though players sadly didn't get to control Snake again in the game, they finally got the opportunity once more in 2008 with the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, where Snake re-emerged as the grizzled badass "Old Snake."
