10 Times You Secretly Made The Game Harder (And Didn't Even Realize)
6. The Tadpole Temptation - Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3's choices range from innocent and inconsequential to game-changing moments that will determine everything going forward.
It's typically easy to tell when you're dealing with which category of choices, but this isn't always the case.
As a matter of fact, there is even a way you can secretly make the game a lot harder for yourself because of your decisions.
The main plot is mainly focused on your party dealing with the tadpoles infecting their brains. At one point, you discover that the parasites let you manipulate the minds of other infected individuals, and while it may seem like a good idea since the option is always the easiest way to get out of most situations, in reality, each use comes with an unmentioned price.
The first time you use the tadpole, you get a vague message saying your character feels like they lost something afterward. It's easy to disregard this warning, since you get no debuffs afterward.
However, in reality each use of the tadpole mind control makes it significantly harder to resist the mind flayers' influence in Act 3.
Even a couple of uses can make it impossible to withstand the easiest temptations, and this can have some nasty consequences, such as being forcibly turned into a mind flayer hybrid.
You are what you mind-control—manipulated.
