10 Times You Secretly Made The Game Harder (And Didn't Even Realize)

7. Becoming a Vampire - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Oblivion Remaster
Bethesda

The new Oblivion Remastered has changed quite a few things about the original. Unfortunately, vampirism isn’t one of them, and if you get it by accident, your game is still guaranteed to be an annoying nightmare.

Like in many other Elder Scrolls games, your character in Oblivion can turn into a vampire if they contract a disease called Sanguinare Vampiris from hostile vampires. After getting infected, they will transform into a bloodsucker within three days… And from that point on, you’ll be basically playing on hard mode.

The difference between Oblivion and Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online vampires is that the former don’t just receive debuffs from walking in the sun—they also get damaged by it!

It can take as little as a minute for your character to be completely destroyed by the light, making it impossible to travel the world by day. This means that you have to constantly plan ahead to complete quests during nighttime, and if you take too long or miscalculate, your character might as well turn into dust on the spot.

It’s a seriously annoying feature, which a lot of newbie players suffer unintentionally, since the game doesn’t tell you what Sanguinare Vampiris does exactly.
