Heavy Rain may have been the safer choice to include in this list because of it being better received by gamers, but Beyond Two Souls is the more ambitious project of David Cage which, while may come off as pretentious to some, has a story with more variety and less linear direction.

Excellently acted by Ellen Page, you play as Jodie Holmes, a female cursed by an entity named Aiden – an annoying spirit who makes the neck snapping demon from Paranormal Activity look pleasant. Bullied by intolerable kids and abandoned by frightened parents, Jodie lives in isolation with the Government, where she is fathered by Willem Dafoe and is later used as a weapon.

Jodie’s life is fascinating to watch because of all the people she forms a bond with on her journey from living on the streets, getting lost in the desert and reprising Ellen Page’s role in Inception as a glorified navigator.

With difficult choices to make, plenty of quick-time events and a cinematic focus, Beyond Two Souls is a game every Telltale fan will love from beginning to end. Even if it is a “lost cause” for the David Cage detractors.
