Created by Psychonauts' Tim Schafer, Brütal Legend stars Jack Black as a metal-loving roadie who's transported to a fantastical, heavy-metal world. Joining forces with late rock legends including Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy, players fight to reclaim these lands from a tyrannical demon emperor.

This game's trailer perfectly captured its tone while enticing players with its visually striking settings and creative character designs, which could have come straight from a classic metal album. It was playfully self-aware, bursting with developer Double Fine's vibrant personality, and backed by a face-melting soundtrack. In short, it looked sensational.

The featured gameplay clips suggested that this would be an open world action game where players would drive a hot rod and engage in hack-and-slash combat. However, this trailer, alongside the gameplay demo, concealed the fact that Brütal Legend was partly a real-time strategy game.

After the opening hours, players would soon amass their own demon army, which they'd give commands to during battles. While players could still join the fray, this wasn't the game that they were promised.

Despite the shady marketing souring this title's reputation, Brütal Legend remains an outstanding outing that music lovers are guaranteed to adore.
