10 True Video Game Endings You Gave Up On

3. Code Vein - Good Ending

Does anyone actually remember Code Vein? A vampire-heavy Soulslike, Code Vein has completely dropped off the gaming map since its release three years ago. Frankly, it's easy to see why.

It's not a bad game - the combat is pleasantly chunky - but it is a forgettable one. Its biggest problem was that, for a narrative-driven game, its writing was so bland it's tough to remember even a single character's name. (I'm pretty sure there were some Russians. Maybe a German as well).

Unfortunately, to get the game's true ending you had to sit through a lot of said writing. Code Vein's unique collectibles were Vestiges - the crystallized memories of different characters. Whenever you collected one, you literally walked through their memories in what amounted to an unskippable cutscene.

So not only did you have to scour the world looking for each collectible, your reward for finding one was being forced to sit through a torturously mundane cutscene detailing the past of a character whose existence you will have forgotten 10 minutes after the credits roll.

Sorry, Code Vein. Unlike the vampires that populate your story, our lives are just too short to put ourselves through that.
