4. Getting The Snake Key In Resident Evil VII

Resident Evil 7
Capcom

Resident Evil VII ramps up the tension, the fear, and above all the grossness to reboot the Resi series in memorable style.

Early on, the protagonist, Ethan, encounters a policeman who looks like he might become a classic Resi supporting character, but who is killed with a shovel a few moments later. The unfortunate copper isn't done with, though, as later the Baker family's nastiest member, son Lucas, encourages you to fetch the Snake Key needed to access the next section of the Bakers' grubby Bayou abode.

The player is confronted with the headless corpse of the cop. So far, so bleurgh. But the snake key is somewhere... inside.

RE 7 isn't stingy with gruesome ooziness as Ethan reluctantly shoves his hand into the stump of the corpse's neck. Being in first person it's impossible not to imagine what doing such a gruesome thing might actually feel like, and the player joins Ethan in desperately not wanting to do it.
