10 TV Shows With Weird Video Game Episodes
7. The Simpsons - E My Sports
The Simpsons have done a fair few video game episodes in their time, with the fictional Dingo Dash, Bonestorm and Lee Carvalho’s Putting Challenge all getting a bit of screen time.
The lesser spotted arcade machines at Noiseland or the Kwik-E-Mart are usually good for a laugh too, but on a few occasion, the writers have delved deeper.
Marge Gamer sees Marge get into video games in a League Of Legends style role-play adventure. However, it largely ignores the gaming aspect for narrative and comedic purposes, wedging in gags about the virtual versions of various Springfieldites.
Season 30’s E My Sports plays it straighter, with Bart getting insanely good at E Sports and competing in tournaments. Homer uses this opportunity to bond with Bart, acting as the team’s manager while also hiring a coach. The episode tries to emphasise that Homer is enjoying the possibility of living off his son’s winnings, but it largely is a sweet affair.
Until, as is often the case these days, Lisa gets involved. After whining her way onto Bart’s trip to Korea, Lisa convinces Homer to be Zen, which sees him reject material wealth, sabotage Bart’s tournament, and end his career.
