10 TV Shows With Weird Video Game Episodes
6. Futurama - Anthology Of Interest II
What if life was more like a video game?
It’s a question we’ve all asked at one time or another, and in Anthology Of Interest II, Futurama provided an answer. It’s chock full of references and knowing gags, and unlike how some other times TV shows use video games, you can tell this one was a labour of love.
Pac-Man, QBert, Donkey Kong, Mario, Space Invaders and plenty more feature as Futurama goes for a very arcade-centric video game reality. Pixels couldn’t cram as much storytelling into an entire movie as Futurama does in a single seven minute segment.
It sees Fry as Earth’s last hope against the invaders, possibly from space. He uses all the old tricks from Space Invaders, but needed Yancy’s help to defeat the last one, so Earth falls.
Thankfully, a treaty over quarters and laundry brings peace amongst worlds.
Another anthology episode of the show (Reincarnation) later tries to recapture the magic, but largely falls short. However, the video game section of A Biclops Built For Two is probably the most fun video game we’ve ever seen on screen, proving that Futurama is definitely a show which understands games.
