10 Underrated Video Games That Need Sequels
1. Alien: Isolation
The Alien franchise is no stranger to video game adaptations. Though most games emulate 1986's Aliens, this entry was inspired by the 1979 original. Titled Alien: Isolation, it was a survival horror game which pit Amanda Ripley against the Xenomorph.
The star of the game was the titular character. The Alien was programmed with very sophisticated AI that could analyze patterns and learn from its mistakes. Unlike other video game villains such as Nemesis or Mr. X, the Xenomorph felt like a living being and could even trick players, making for a hugely intense horror experience.
An added difficulty spike was the fact that it couldn't be killed in gameplay. Because of this, players were encouraged to avoid encounters or suffer painful deaths. Aside from the Alien, the game featured enemies such as the Working Joe androids which were terrifying in their own right.
Alien: Isolation was praised for its devotion to the source material by emulating the mood and tone of the first film. Amanda's inclusion added a personal connection to the movies as the character was only mentioned briefly in Aliens. The game even had DLC which featured most of the cast of Alien including Sigourney Weaver. Isolation came at a time when the series desperately needed a hit. After the disaster that was Aliens: Colonial Marines, this assured gamers that the Alien franchise was still worthy.
