2. Bulletstorm
In the early 2010s, the success of Call of Duty led to an oversaturation of first person shooters. In the sea of countless copycats and competitors, one FPS stood out among the rest. The game was Bulletstorm and it released in 2011.
While others focused on the realism of war, Bulletstorm featured stylized violence. The game's selling point was the Skillshot system, whereby performing creative kills rewarded players with upgrades and weapons. These executions included kicking enemies into spiked flora and ejecting bad guys off ships. T
here was also an unusual collection of weapons. With an electronic leash, players could pull enemies closer to them to perform short ranged kills. A gun could launch bouncing cannons while a rifle allowed you to shoot drills into people. Overall, the title's addicting gameplay loop gave gamers the freedom to kill enemies in numerous ways.
Though it was a commercial failure, the game has gained a fan following which led to a recent remaster. Titled Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, it featured updated visuals and was released for the current generation consoles. This time around, the game sold better and proved that the IP has a solid following, so here's hoping for a sequel.
