3. Journey - Meeting Your Companion
There you are, steering your little robed figure through the lonely desert when suddenly you see a light appear at the edge of your screen and hear a little chime. You look around until suddenly you spot it, another robed companion like yourself. He may be wearing red, he may be wearing white, he may bare only one golden ring around the bottom of his robe, or maybe his gold rings are reaching his shoulders. You may be paired with a companion who completely ignores you, but most of the time you are paired with a companion who is there with you, or maybe even to guide you to the very end. You two go through thick and thin together. You fly together, slide together down some of the most gorgeously lit landscapes in all of gaming, go hesitantly through the blue tinted depths, and you have their back even if it sometimes means sacrificing yourself, (or scarf rather.) The Journey ends with a silhouette of the two of you entering the white light, and you feel just a little bit sad to see it end and let your companion go. Although you still haven't technically met them yet. As the beautiful song I Was Born for This fades out over the uplifting credits you finally get to meet your fellow traveller. Companions met along the way appears above and all your companions gamertags begin appearing. Journey offers such an incredible co-op experience, and in my few playthroughs I have yet to find a companion who I didn't think was great. Even if I ended up playing with someone who had a username to the likes of CODragingFanBoyBoobyLVR I still found myself nodding my head in appreciation thinking "Hey, that guy is pretty cool." Very few multi-player experiences can make you feel that, and for that it is truly unforgettable. (And for the sake of society, I truly hope that is no ones username; thank God there is a character limit.)
