http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UARM4q7hHU Pretty much any of Nobuo Uematsu's themes from the Final Fantasy games could have made it in here, but given how Final Fantasy VII stands as probably the series' most iconic entry for most gamers - as it marked the series' leap onto the PlayStation - it's probably the tune we got the most mileage out of. With a distinct style that was just unlike any video game soundtrack out at the time, it so perfectly captured the beauty of the game, both its playful qualities and the more epic tone of its story, of quashing Sephiroth. What begins as ethereal builds to become mischievous, dangerous, and then back to ethereal again. Though many of Uematsu's tunes in this series make us feel something, no track more than this one evokes feelings of longing and nostalgia for the first time that I ever played Final Fantasy VII. So popular have Uematsu's compositions become that he actually performs concerts of his video game music. What a legend.
