2. LIGHT! - Devil May Cry
Capcom’s extreme combat Devil May Cry series is well known for producing staggeringly high quantities of cheese. Indeed, its platinum blonde demon-hunting hero Dante routinely leaps around in a red leather trench coat, taunting devils and monsters alike with catchphrases like “let’s rock, baby!”
It’s easy, then to assume that general entertainment is the primary goal of this franchise, and that it’s not meant to be taken too seriously. What a crying shame, then, that perhaps its funniest moment is one that was probably intended to be sombre.
Cradling the dead body of Trish in his arms, the usually flippant Dante is for once, rather distraught. It’s easy to imagine that the composers of the soft, sweeping score envisioned this moment as both emotional and epic.
“I should’ve been the one to fill your dark soul with LIGHT!” would be a challenge for even the most talented of thespians to pull off, and unfortunately for actor Drew Coombs, Capcom were apparently more than content to use the take in which his voice cracked at the worst possible moment.
