7. The Sims
The Sims is an enjoyable enough time waster. My best friend is rather fond of the games. But I wish EA would stop pulling its punches and make a Sims that reflects the dark and seeded reality in which we live. Allow characters to become hit-men, serial killers, cops, soldiers, etc., then make their jobs like brief FPS mini-games and it would be golden. EA would undoubtedly take a ton of flack for it, with the media arguing that their game is in support of violence, but who really cares what the media thinks? It's full of buzz kills that act like everything from playing with sticks as a kid to watching The Dark Knight Rises turns you into a crazed psychopath when there is no tangible proof yet tying those things and actual violence together. Just once, I'd like to see someone make a game that flies completely in the face of what's acceptable in today's society and challenges misconceptions about the emotional effect video games have on those that play them.
