10 Unova Pokémon We Can’t Wait To Catch In Pokémon Go

The sluggish roll out of Sinnoh (Gen IV) Pokémon in Pokémon Go has been much maligned, but the Sinnoh region’s time in the sun is definitely ending with a bang.

Unowns in 10km eggs, half hatch distance, shiny Legendary Dogs back in raids, Gen I regional shinies and Shiny MewTwo are all joining the game before the Unova roll out begins on September 16th. All we know for sure is that Lillipup, Klink and Patrat will be in Pokémon Go, but the rest will surely be joining before long too.

Black & White, the games featuring the Unova region, are quite divisive. On one hand, they had no evolutionary links to previous generations, introduced new mechanics and marked a sharp change in aesthetic. On the other, they made serious attempts to freshen things up and brought in over 150 new ‘mons.

This huge roster means hopefully they won’t be as drip fed as Sinnoh’s smaller, Legendary heavy region needed to be. It also means there’s plenty of Pokémon to get excited about, but these ten represent the best the region has to offer, based on design, popularity and viability in battle.

Rather than split them, the three Unova starters get their own billing here. They’ll likely be amongst the first introduced, and will definitely get a shiny and Community Day in the near future based on the current pattern. Whoever you’re most excited for probably comes down to which ones you played through Black & White with, but all three definitely have merit.

First off, Grass starter Snivy. A very distinctive design which sees it evolve into a majestic snake in Serperior, losing its arms and legs in the process. Like most Grass starters, it has cult popularity at best.

Water starter Oshawott looks amazingly cute through its first two stages, but then goes all Macauley Caulkin with his third stage. Samurott ditches any trace of fun to become a tank like, spiky killing machine with a huge moustache. It’s still popular - Water starters often are - but you really should know what you’re getting yourself into.

Finally, Fire starter Tepig, a pig wrestler who eventually evolves into Emboar. It’s a clever name but it doesn’t change the fact it’s the third Fire Fighting starter in three generations. Luckily Fennekin and Delphox stop that trend in Generation VI.
