10 Unpopular Opinions That’ll Make Gamers Rage
6. Resident Evil 4 Killed The Franchise

You need only look at what the series has become to then cast your eyes to where this all started to settle on RE4's poignant perspective shift as the catalyst towards a more action-oriented approach, rather than the survival-horror, slow-burn tension of the first three games.
It's definitely true that the 'tank controls' present in the original string of titles needed to go the way of the Dodo, and it's also true that Resi 4 is still a spectacular game, but if Resi 4 had not pioneered its over-the-shoulder perspective - thereby encouraging head and limb-shots alongside set-pieces that see you taking on a large numbers of enemies - it wouldn't have taken on a whole new audience and damned future instalments to be Gears of War rip-offs.
Although the original vision turned into what we now have as Devil May Cry, what came out as the official entry in the series' canon bares hardly any resemblance to the core tenets of what people loved about those original games - there weren't even any 'real' zombies throughout!
It would have been more prudent to have this as a spin-off whilst keeping the main numbered instalments true to form - something we've seem Capcom acknowledge in their re-re-release of Resident Evil for the PS4 and Xbox One, as the series 'returns to its roots' in the most fan-baity way possible.
