10 Unpopular Opinions That’ll Make Gamers Rage

4. Rayman Is Better Than Mario Now

When was the last time you played a Mario title that genuinely turned heads? Like someone was actually stopped in their tracks and had to watch the screen for a bit, because the exploding miasma of animation and bright colours was damn-near intoxicating?

Exactly.

It's not that latest editions Super Mario 3D Land/World and New Super Mario Bros. 2/U (3DS/Wii U) aren't remarkably solid efforts, but the experiences within are very expected and stale. Mario 3D Land/World is a very confusing platformer even without the comparisons, based off the awkward nature of trying to tackle enemies and levels that are far more at home on a 2D plane, especially when Mario moves with about as much fidelity as a treacle sponge.

You look back to 2013's Rayman: Legends though, and it's an absolute joy to behold; from the gorgeous graphics that help bring to life many differently-themed levels ranging from cloudy sky-structures to dark neo-noir stealthy factories, all wrapped up in bouncy 2D animation that would make Disney jealous.

Where Mario is 'just Mario' and that seems to be enough to provide an annual box-tick, Rayman is taking the sensibilities of old school platforming and doing fantastic things - and that's all without mentioning the brilliant music-themed levels where your jumps slides and motions control well-known songs.
