Although this entry isn’t explicitly a horror game in the same way as the others on this list, anyone who played Ninja Theory’s sensational Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice in 2017 will be aware of the creeping sense of dread and macabre beauty which made Senua’s journey into Helheim a harrowing experience.

Now, after years of waiting, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga is almost here, and it looks to be even better than its predecessor.

Taking place after the events of the first game, the sequel follows Senua as she journeys to Iceland to get revenge on a group of Vikings who raid her village. Along the way she’ll battle draugr and encounter mighty giants within a visually stunning world that marries the harsh reality of the historic setting with a gritty dark fantasy.

Just like the first game, sound design will play a pivotal part in the sequel by enabling players to experience Senua’s psychosis. With the Hellblade II boasting improved binaural audio technology, players can look forward to being thrown into an even more immersive narrative experience this time around.

Combine the effective sound design with a staggering level of visual fidelity, and Senua’s Saga is set to be one of this year’s most captivating releasees when it arrives on 21st May.
