10 Upcoming Gaming Sequels (We Really Don't Need)

5. First-Party Nintendo Titles

The Wii U is a console sorely in need of a boost, given that despite having a one-year lead on both the PS4 and Xbox One, it is currently struggling to hold the #2 spot, which it will surely lose to the Xbox One in due course. However, a sure unit-shifter is soon to come in the way of Nintendo's ol' reliable, those classic franchises which essentially print money: we're talking about Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda. All three of those sequels are due for release within the next 12 months, though as is a frequent criticism of Nintendo's first-party titles, are they really necessary? They tend to take a very familiar narrative, imbue it with better graphics and an occasionally new gameplay style, though the core elements are largely what we've seen before. We don't need a new Smash Bros, Mario Kart or Zelda, but Nintendo certainly does, and because these games tend to be so damn fun, we'll probably end up buying them anyway (once the Wii U becomes worth buying, at least).
