10 Upcoming Gaming Sequels (We Really Don't Need)

4. Final Fantasy XV

The Final Fantasy series is arguably the most famous RPG franchise in the history of gaming, though has fallen upon questionable times in recent years. The last truly good game was 2006's Final Fantasy XII, while FFXIII was a colossal let-down with its limited scope and terrible characters, even if this game inexorably lead to two unnecessary spin-offs as well. The fourteenth Final Fantasy was an online bust before being relaunched last year in the still-underwhelming A Realm Reborn, and so all roads point to the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. Originally unveiled as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, FFXV has been the subject of much discussion and skepticism over the years as to whether it's actually going to be released. There are some promising aspects, in that while being a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos, it reportedly has little to do with the Final Fantasy XIII games, and it also promises a darker, less-cartoonish array of characters and plotlines. Still, it's hard to muster up too much enthusiasm for the project, for while the graphics look fantastic, there hasn't been a truly outstanding Final Fantasy storyline in around a decade, and some might argue even more than that.
