Who wouldn't want to see GLaDOS on the big screen? Taunting and teasing the main character as she made her way through the movie. Or even bring in Wheatley. That would be a laugh. Until they started to actually capitalise on the portals. Because, after all, Portal is a puzzle game. And how one would adapt a puzzle game to the big screen is beyond comprehension.
It would turn what is a beloved puzzle-game into an action movie with the portal gun. And that isn't what people want. Sure, there could be some interesting stunts and could have some decent character drama as people run through GLaDOS's test chambers, but it wouldn't be able to make the titular portals work.
The idea of a movie based in Aperture where a group of people have to escape the facility is good. But as soon as you introduce the idea of portals, the movie is squandered. Making a standalone movie devoid of portals but in the test facility?
Now that could work...
