10 Upcoming Video Game Movies That Are Destined To Fail
4. Temple Run
Remember Temple Run? Don't worry, you're not the only one. Temple Run was one of the mobile game fads. It was a quick burner that spawned a ton of rip-offs and cash grab mobile games. That's all it was: a trend.
It is the same problem as Tetris, Fruit Ninja and Gran Tursimo, in the sense that it has no backbone around which to build a story. It would have to be an all-out parody, making fun of the game being forced into a realistic scenario, but even then, the idea is only ankle-deep. There is only so much comedic brilliance that can be drawn from a game where you swipe left, right, and occasionally jump.
It all comes down to the fact that the movie will struggle to put people in chairs. Unless they come up with some Godfather level stuff, the movie won't have the appeal. Because no-one is dying to see a movie based on a forgotten mobile game. Chances are, nobody even has it on their phone any more.
Next thing you know, they'll have Flappy Bird in the works.
