10 Upcoming Video Game Remakes That Could Be Better Than The Original
9. Splinter Cell
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is one of the most beloved stealth games of all time, though it's fair to say that Ubisoft hasn't shown the overall franchise much respect in recent years.
But in 2021 the publisher announced that a Splinter Cell remake is in the works, with the intent to honour the original game while updating it to modern standards, and making use of Ubisoft's gorgeous Snowdrop engine, which has been previously used on Tom Clancy's The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws.
As mechanically tight as the original game was in 2002, it goes without saying that the stealth genre has evolved considerably over the last two-plus decades.
Can you imagine how incredible a Splinter Cell remake would be with the enemy AI, traversal mechanics, cover system, and non-lethal options of something like Metal Gear Solid V?
A new take could also introduce modern gadgetry to offer a contemporary twist on the original missions, and even open up levels to be less-linear and present players with more options for completing missions.
If Ubisoft can retain the soul of the original while delivering something in line with modern expectations, this could be an all-timer remake that becomes the definitive Splinter Cell game.
Considering it was first announced almost four years ago, hopefully we're not too far off seeing some actual gameplay.
