10 Upcoming Video Game Remakes That Could Be Better Than The Original

4. Gothic

Gothic is one of the all-time great instances of the "Eurojank" game - an extremely ambitious action-RPG released in 2001 that touts a great story and memorable characters, though is also an abject bug-fest.

In early 2020 THQ Nordic announced a remake, after a proof-of-concept demo landed online in 2019 and was received with utter euphoria by fans of the original.

Developer Alkimia Interactive has promised fans that, in addition to rebuilding the game from the ground-up in Unreal Engine 5, they're aiming to make it far more accessible in terms of its controls and user interface, both of which make the original tough to play today.

Elsewhere the game world will be anywhere from 10-30% larger than before, and content which was cut from the original Gothic due to time and budget constraints - such as planned quests - will be restored.

And finally the dialogue is being rewritten and entirely re-recorded, with the intent of fleshing out the existing story and emphasisng aspects which were more vague in the original.

If the well-received recent demo is any indication, Alkimia has basically knocked this one out of the park.
