10 Upcoming Video Games That Are Getting Delayed

1. Mafia: The Old Country

The fourth entry into the Mafia franchise was finally revealed last August at Gamescom after years of rumours, with a release date currently set for Q3 2025.

However, there's been much hand-wringing online about the possibility of the open-world action game having its thunder stolen by Grand Theft Auto VI should they release in proximity.

Yet given that Mafia: The Old Country publisher 2K is also a subsidiary of Rockstar's owner Take-Two Interactive, they'll surely have a vested interested to avoid a clash between the two titles.

If we assume that GTA VI does indeed get delayed into early 2026, then there are two options here - getting Mafia out early in the second half of 2025, or nudging it to late 2026, many months after GTA VI has landed.

While there's some online scuttlebutt about the game possibly being moved up, the iterative nature of games development naturally makes it hugely challenging for games to have their dev cycles shortened.

And so, it's surely more likely that we won't end up seeing Mafia: The Old Country hit stores for another 18 months or so, once the hubbub surrounding GTA VI has calmed down somewhat.

This is assuming, of course, that GTA VI is itself delayed at all. As ever, we'll have to wait and see.
