10 Upcoming Video Games You Didn't Realise Got Cancelled
1. TimeSplitters Next
There are few gamers who've been let down more than TimeSplitters veterans. Even though Free Radical teased TimeSplitters 4 back in 2004, publishers got cold feet after the developers' previous project, Haze, bombed, which led to the chrono-shooter being abandoned and the company being shut down.
In 2012, there was buzz of a fan-made reboot called TimeSplitters Rewind that incorporated the best elements from the trilogy. Just like the fourth entry, Rewind never came to be.
That same year, ex-Free Radical members pushed for a TimeSplitters 2 remake, hoping it would reignite interest in TimeSplitters 4. Once again, these plans went nowhere.
Rather than going quietly into the night, somebody thought, "Fourth time lucky." In 2018, Koch Media bought the rights for TimeSplitters, intending to restart the timey-wimey saga with TimeSplitters Next. So, not only did it seem like we were getting another entry, a whole batch of TimeSplitters games were seemingly underway.
Although it sounded too good to be true, skepticism subsided when Free Radical was reformed. Not only that, the company and the original creators would be directly involved in the next TimeSplitters.
Or so it seemed. Just as Free Radical Design got back on its feet, the company was shut down in December 2023, killing yet another TimeSplitters project.
Fifth time lucky, right guys?
