3. Deus Ex Sequel

Even though Deus Ex was considered revolutionary, the Invisible War sequel failed to live up to expectations. After Ion Storm closed up shop the following year, the cyberpunk saga looked like it was going to fizzle out.

Almost a decade later, Eidos-Montreal resurrected the dystopian brand with the stellar prequel, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Just to prove it wasn't a one-off, they followed it up with an equally solid sequel called Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Things seemed touch and go for a while, so it was reassuring to see Deus Ex was back for good.

Or maybe not. Although a sequel to Mankind Divided was planned, it was scrapped in 2017.

Although this was a bummer, it paved the way for something drastically better (or so it seemed, at the time). In 2022, Eidos-Montreal was sold to Embracer Group, who intended to release Deus Ex remasters, remakes, spin-offs, and yes, an official sequel.

That's why it was so devastating when Embracer Group put an end to the project amidst almost a hundred layoffs "as part of an ongoing initiative to cut costs."

Although Deus Ex's future looked bright for a time, there hasn't been a new instalment in almost a decade.
