10 USELESS Video Game Skills You Were Tricked Into Buying
2. Inspire - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
The Borderlands series has a long history of trolling its players. From missions that fool you into doing something terrible to weapons that have amazing stats but create terrible, ungodly noises, the franchise has done it all.
Even the skill trees aren't safe from developers' trickery.
In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Handsome Jack's doppelganger has a special skill tree called "The Hero of This Story."
As its name might suggest, the perks you can purchase in this tree are all about making fake Jack a true protagonist by giving him huge buffs for resistance and damage. That's why when you see the perk called "Inspire," it's easy to assume that it's going to give you some amazing new ability as well, perhaps something that allows you to inspire your allies to perform better in battle.
No, of course not! That would make too much sense!
Instead, what Inspire actually does is make the real Jack occasionally pop in to give you small words of encouragement as a campy graphic with the word "Inspired!" shows up on the screen.
Is it funny? Yes. Was the joke worth spending your hard-earned skill point on? Well, maybe a little.
