10 Utterly Creepy Moments From Japanese Gaming

8. The Infinite Staircase - Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 As a kid, playing Super Mario 64 was one of the most memorable events in my life, the game was perfect, super fun and had a mixed level of challenge to test you. When you reach the last floor, and approach what appears to be the last Star Door, a message appears, stating that you don't have enough stars to open it yet...but it opens! The game is giving you the chance to pass even if you didn't accomplish the goal required to it. So, you start running to the staircase, and... The music, combined with the feeling that something is not right after you realise that you have climbed too much makes this supremely creepy. In the end, you get tired and decide to make the same trip downstairs, so you turn back and you discover that...you havenĀ“t moved from the beginning! That blows completely your mind. The game has fooled you...and there's nothing you can do about it.
