10 Utterly Irritating Video Game Heroes You Were Supposed To Love

6. Toad - Mario Series

rsz_is_toad_flipping_me_off_wallpaper__yvt2 Toad is Princess Peach's most loyal (and useless) attendant. In the first Mario Bros game, he appeared at the end of every level as an unintentional troll, spouting the famous line, "Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another castle!" Well, thanks a bunch, Toad. Put yourself in Mario's shoes; you've just spent 10 minutes jumping from block to precarious block, narrowly avoiding getting your arse disintegrated by jumping balls of lava, before finally taking on a spike-backed turtle five times your size. You finally arrive at the chamber where you can rescue your Princess and finally get some... Wait, what the hell? Toad?! Well isn't this a massive dry-hump. As if that isn't bad enough, zoom in on Toad's 8-bit sprite at this exact moment and you will see that the little guy is flipping you off. Wonderful. Toad also manages to be annoying in the spin-off titles, especially Mario Kart 64. Whenever the player selects Toad, he blows his entire speed-load just after passing the start line, and then rapidly gets overtaken by the other racers with their man-sized engines. This is totally reversed when you are racing AGAINST Toad; he can easily "Yippee" his way past the finish line before you even realise what's happened. Combine all of this with his high-pitched voice and excitable personality, you've got a Grade A annoying hero. Most annoying quote: "Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!"
