10 Video Game 100% Completions That Were Profoundly Insulting
3. Pokémon
"Wait, which Pokémon game?" Well, all of them.
While catching every Pokémon in the game is technically optional, the series' tagline "gotta catch'em all" sure did a heck of a poor job communicating that to us. So many of us young trainers tried in vain for so long to catch all 151, 251, 386, or however many Pokémon exist in the game they were playing. But once you finally achieve this monumental task, which has taken you so many hours and so many trades to complete, you get...
A diploma.
No super-secret legendary Pokémon that can only be attained by catching all the other ones, no shiny Pokémon, no Pokémon with perfect stats, not even a bunch of Rare Candies to get all your Pokémon up to Level 100 - just a still image with a message from Game Freak saying that you completed the National Pokédex.
Thanks. Now I wish I hadn't.
"Gotta catch'em all" proved to be such an empty, feckless promise that I have honestly not even attempted to catch them all since Pokémon Red and Blue. I know what "catching them all" means, and it's not worth it. It will never be worth it.
