10 Video Game Accessories EVERYONE Owned (Until They Didn't)
8. Light Gun Shooters
For many 80s gamers, their first experience with a light gun was when they used the Zapper for the NES shooter, Duck Hunt. Despite the technology being in its infancy, players were blown away by the peripheral's accuracy.
During the 90s, shooters like Point Blank and Virtua Cop were making a killing at the arcades, giving the impression light gun titles would be around forever.
Although this accessory dipped in popularity during the early noughties, motion control systems like the Wii allowed light guns to have a resurgence. When the Wii Zapper sold like crazy, everyone thought light guns were back for good.
But because the technology isn't compatible with modern TVs, light guns had an immediate decline. Even though modern shooters experimented with a LED tracking light gun, the technology failed to make waves.
Considering first-person shooters have never been more popular, it's a pity light guns are dying out. Because certain titles like House of the Dead and Time Crisis were designed with light gun mechanics in mind, you can't have the same experience with a regular controller.
