10 Video Game Bad Endings BETTER Better Than Good Ones
1. Usurpation Of Fire - Dark Souls 3
When it comes to lore, there are two types of Dark Souls players: those who spend hours meticulously analyzing every piece of information, and those who look at the funny onion-shaped knight, laugh, and then go on with their lives.
If you're part of the latter, you probably view the three Dark Souls 3 endings as just the same boring bossfight followed by slightly different cutscenes talking about ashes, cinders, and other fire-related things. However, lore-wise, the three endings are actually about deciding the fate of the world. And it just so happens that the basic "good" ending is the worst fate you can subject it to.
The primary story of Dark Souls is almost entirely focused on the world's Cycle of Rebirth. The world keeps resetting, preventing everyone from dying and making everyone go insane. Your character's goal in Dark Souls 3 is to rekindle the Flame that keeps the world going, prolonging its suffering.
However, if you manage to corrupt your character throughout the story and make them abandon their mission to usurp the Flame for themselves, the world can finally break out of its maddening cycle, ushering in a new curse-free age.
See? This is why you read up on lore.
