10 Video Game Betas That Put You Off Full Games

The Division was rather different from other franchises under Ubisoft's banner. Taking heavy inspiration from Bungie's Destiny, it was the company's first foray into the ever-controversial live service model of gaming.

In early 2016, players got their hands on the title for the first time with the beta and the results were less than impressive. While The Division boasted the same highly competent third-person action the studio was known for, it didn't hide other problems in its design and structure.

What made The Division rather lacklustre was its failed features and seemingly endless grind that killed off many player's motivation. Many of the missions relied on generic and overly familiar templates and enemies would often become bullet sponges with no room for tactical engagement. The dark zone was equally disappointing with players constantly running exploits to cheat their way to the best loot. The fact that the beta needed a larger 50GB of data to run didn't help either.

The final game would carry over many of these same problems. Despite efforts to expand the content pool, The Division didn't become the blockbuster hit Ubisoft was hoping for. The developer would eventually make some improvements with The Division 2, but for their initial live-service release, it ended up being lumped in alongside other mediocre titles in the sub-genre.
