10 Video Game Boss Fights That Broke The Rules

5. King K. Rool - Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong Country's final boss fight against King K. Rool seems pretty conventional for the most part - right until he falls down defeated, in fact.

After skirting clear of his attacks and leaping on his head a few times, K. Rool's day seems to be done, the end credits rolling as players get to sit back and toast themselves a job well done.

Except, those few who actually bother to read the end credits scroll might realise all is not well: most of the production credits are awarded to Donkey Kong's Kremling foes, and after about a half-minute, the credits will end and K. Roll will surge back to life for a second go-around.

Those who dealt with K. Rool easily enough the first time won't struggle too much here, though it's also highly likely you were caught off-guard when he woke back up.

The message here was simple - even when you're absolutely, positively sure you're safe, think again.
