Known for their immensely challenging combat and staggering boss fights, FromSoftware are undisputed champions at making players rage quit after hours of having their skills pushed to the absolute limit.

Elden Ring was likewise no exception to the developers’ style of gameplay. Throughout its sprawling world, players would come across dozens of controller-breaking bouts against the likes of Radahn, Placidusax, and The Elden Beast. None of these bosses, though, are as difficult as what faced players when they met Melenia.

An optional boss found in the Haligree, Melenia has since become considered as one of FromSoftware’s most gruelling enemies to date, more punishing than even The Nameless King and the Demon Of Hatred.

Alongside being incredibly fast and aggressive, what makes Melenia especially trying is her dreaded Waterfowl Dance weapon art. A flurry of powerful attacks with her katana that come in bursts of three, getting caught in this attack is guaranteed death. Spotting this early enough to get out of the way is the only way to survive this fight.

The addition of aerial attacks and rot damage in the second phase only makes an already intense fight even harder. But it’s her ability to heal herself with each hit that makes Melenia an almost unfair challenge.
