3. The Colossi (Shadow of the Colossus)

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the greatest games I have e ever played, not just because of the graphics and gameplay, but because the developers tricked me into killing each Colossus. As you start the game you are led to believe that killing each Colossus will bring your loved one back to life and in truth it does - what we're not told, however, is that the Colossi are the good guys. It's all fun and games defeating them, but when you look at it, they are just giant monsters in the middle of nowhere who aren't bothering anyone. Suddenly out of nowhere, a cap on a horse starts firing arrows into them, climbing across their bodies and stabbing them; it seems the main player attends the same weekly meetings as Link. As each Colossus is brought to the ground, a mournful sigh seems to escape from them all that's truly harrowing. Couple this with look of deep sadness each has in its eyes and you start to regret killing them, you start to wish they'd survived and you'd never come to this desolate area at all.
