4. Supercomputer - Metal Gear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc4cai8Jixg&t=8m34s The Metal Gear games in every iteration have essentially involved Snake (or, ahem, Raiden) trying to stop someone from launching a devastating strike against the world, and in the original Metal Gear, this was no different. Metal Gear was in this game a giant, armoured tank that had the capability of launching nuclear weapons, and so Solid Snake was sent in to try and disarm it. "Awesome", we think to ourselves, as this must mean a thrilling final showdown against the tank itself, and as we can't risk damaging the nuclear materials, maybe it'll mean we'll have to devise an ingenious way to take it out? The Japanese are very lucky people; they're the only country in the world to get the original version of the game, where Snake has to explode said tank (a little dangerous if you ask us), for the NES port instead pits you against the ever-imposing force of...a supercomputer. Yep, you just lob some explosives at the mainframe and that just about does it. After trawling through a desperate dash to prevent all-out nuclear war, it's stopped by shutting down a computer that puts up zero resistance; that's not exactly the thrilling end we had imagined...
