8. Lu Bu - Dynasty Warriors 3

Lu Bu is the penultimate character of the Dynasty Warriors series, even going so far as the first game which was actually a fighting game. Lu Bu was the final end boss and was pretty tough, but fair - an unusual thing for fighting games.

In the first hack-and-slash of the series, Dynasty Warriors 2, he was made a bit less fair but was still fightable. Due to the narrative that DW is based on he actually appears fairly early in the story - often in the second or third battle. So the player is often advised to not fight him. And his difficulty has waxed and waned in various games of the series, but DW3 was the first true reminder that he was the boss, no matter what.

Given how early you fight him - the 2nd stage - your character will likely be pretty low-leveled. Lu Bu will not be easily beaten, if beatable at all. He has long range, is super quick, can block or deflect your ultimate attacks, has tons of HP, and hits like a freight elephant. He also shows up on the fastest horse in the game, so even if you decide to back off - he can still outpace you if he doesn't want to let you leave, alive.

As most NPCs say in the game: "Do not pursue Lu Bu." Maybe he's just mad they've been mispronouncing his name for more than two decades?
