10 Video Game Cash Cows The Industry Can’t Stop Milking

Ubisoft have calmed down a little lately, but Assassin's Creed is still widely regarded as one of the most milked franchises in the history of the gaming industry. The first game came out in 2007 and since then we'd had a total of 10 releases in the main series, as well as a bunch of portable spin-offs like Bloodlines and Liberation, as well as a frankly terrible movie with Michael Fassbender.

Between 2007 and 2015, a new main series Assassin's Creed game was released every single year, with many of the later games criticised for bringing nothing new to the table apart from a different setting.

In 2016, the company decided to have a year off in order to make their next game, 2017's Assassin's Creed: Origins, even better, but they still released a couple of spin-offs for the PlayStation Vita.

Even though Origins was generally well-received, it can be argued that the AC formula hasn't evolved a whole lot over the last decade and plenty of fans have given up on the series. Nevertheless, Assassin's Creed remains one of the most profitable properties in gaming, so we'll surely be seeing many more of them in the future.
