10 Video Game Characters Fans OBSESSED Over (Commenter's Edition)
3. Vaas - Far Cry 3
Because Far Cry's big bad, Vaas Montenegro is a reckless, callous, mean-spirited, Machiavellian psychopath, we should hate his guts. But due Michael Mando's oozing charisma, Vaas became one of the most iconic villains in gaming history.
Mando is so effortlessly charming, it feels like Vaas was tailor-made for him.
In a way, he was. Originally, the game's antagonist was a totally different person called Bull.
After Mando blew everyone away at the audition, the developers reworked the character to fit the actor's personality. It was a genius move, since Vaas became an overnight sensation. More impressively, Vaas was a hit before Far Cry 3 was released, due to some masterful promotion. Long before gamers got their hands on Far Cry 3, they acted like Vaas was the be-all-and-end-all.
Because he's only in Far Cry 3 for less than 19 minutes and is killed off halfway through, fans were understandably disappointed there wasn't more of the deranged crime lord overall.
His role may have been smaller than we presumed, but it hasn't stopped Vaas from becoming the defining character of the Far Cry franchise.
